Understanding forex currency pairs

A currency pair expresses the relative value of two currencies. In EUR/USD, EUR is the base currency and USD is the quote currency.

For example, EUR/USD at 1.08 means one euro is worth 1.08 US dollars. This is an explanatory example, not a current quote.

Before comparing pairs

Check which currency comes first and which comes second. Also confirm the provider, instrument type and quote time. Reversing the pair changes how the number is interpreted.
